One thing I belive is not entirely correct. Separating title tag with |. It looks a little spammy when it shows in organic results. Most popular websites have title tag as one sentence without any special caracters. It looks much batter for a human eye.

I’m not sure what you mean by open source websites, but a purely html website is usually much easier to optimize. But any type of website can rank well if optimized properly.
