SEO Audit Software

An SEO audit tool should be an essential item in any serious optimizers toolbox. The proper spidering program can be huge time saver, especially when you’re managing sites larger than a couple of pages, or multiple websites for yourself or your clients. A website auditor will crawl all of your sites’ webpages, then report back critical details, warnings and errors regarding the crawlability of interlinking pages. It will also typically provide advanced reports on the content and structure of other pertinent elements.

The differences between a site audit and an optimization analysis could easily be debated. However, many professionals consider them one in the same, and each of these programs categorizes the tasks slightly different. With that said, I’ve gone over and reviewed what I think are the most common features typically considered to be website auditing, and review search engine optimization programs on another page.

One important thing to remember is that not all subscription levels or versions support all features. It is recommended that your review each tool individually and sign-up for the free trials whenever possible to ensure each is capable of fulfilling your specific needs.

The Website Auditor by Link-Assistant is an advanced desktop software program for auditing websites which runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. You can buy this handy tool individually at a very competitive price, or get it by purchasing the entire Link-Assistant SEO Power Suite. What sets it apart from some of the other tools is the ability to detect nofollow site links, and its ease for searching report specifics directly within the interface. If you need a utility to simplify the process of site structure and HTML error checking, you definitely should check this one out. You can try it for free.

I wouldn’t recommend signing up for Web CEO online if you’re primary need is for a professional grade SEO site auditor. The auditing component is very basic and only covers a few checks, such as common header response codes, broken links, missing title tags, slow pages and broken anchors. Those are all helpful items to report indeed, but if you are looking for something more advanced, then I’d go with one of the other tools. However, if you are new to SEO and don’t desire such advanced programs yet, then this online service is well-priced and offers an entire set of beginner utilities beyond just web site auditing. That includes rank tracking, search engine submission, keyword research, SEO analyzer, and an optimization checklist. The silver plan starts at $49/mo, but you can get started for free.

SEOmoz’s crawl diagnostic tool performs a comprehensive analysis of a website’s structure, content and HTML code. It does a great job categorizing the errors reported to help users focus on the most important issues first. The extensive list is categorized into groups of errors, warnings and notices. All of the details provided are extremely helpful for doing an advanced SEO site audit, and are key elements to pay attention to when optimizing websites. You can read the full SEOmoz PRO review if you need more information, or start a 30 day free trial now.

All of these services offer printable reports and report exports, so I didn’t think it was necessary to list that next to each one. Most of them offer white-label reporting on selected plans too.

Some other notable programs to consider are Xenu’s Link Sleuth, Screaming Frog, Google Webmaster tools and Microsoft’s IIS Search Engine Optimization Toolkit. They will all crawl your website and offer basic reports for free.

If you know of any other products you think should make it on this list, please don’t hesitate to tell me about it.
