This morning I read this week’s focus point in the Summit Consulting Newsletter and one line in it particulary had me thinking. That line was:

Google must be up to their testing again. I thought my eyes were playing a trick at me at first, then thought maybe I had installed a new plugin in Firefox and that was causing it. But after testing several different search terms with several different browsers including Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome; Google was indeed showing a single blue arrow there next to one of the search results on each page for nearly every search query I tried.
Which result the arrow pointed at did seem to be somewhat random, but I’m sure nothing Google does is random. [...more]

An SEO Toolbar can be a great way to save time and money when doing search engine optimization. The toolbar from SEOBook.com is like a dream come true for me. It allows me to get a quick sense about some of the most important statistics of every website and page I visit. Things like which authoritative directories a website is listed in, the number of backlinks reported by Yahoo! Site Explorer, estimated unique visitors, domain age, as well as a super easy nofollow link highlighter among other things. Here’s another sneaky dofollow backlink you can get from the very authoritative domain Archive.org, also known as the Way Back Machine.
Any website that has an archive page on Archive.org will already have a dofollow link pointing back to their website, however most site archives don’t appear to be crawlable from anywhere else on archive.org, so you have to point an external link from somewhere else to your website’s profile page if you want Google to find it. A few weeks ago I wrote how to publish your RSS feed using the Feedburner MyBrand feature so that you can always keep your company or website name at the forefront. After I had this set-up and working I later had an issue when I tried to redirect my old RSS feed URL to Feedburner so I could have Feedburner count all of those subscribers who were subscribed to the old feed URL too. It sounds easy enough, but doing what I would normally do for redirects caused Feedburner to stop updating the Feedburner feed with new posts. In any case, I have since found a great FREE plugin to do that work for me, so now ALL of my subscribers are getting forwarded to and counted at the new feed URL.
