Is Your New WordPress Blog Visible to the Search Engines?
Posted by Wesley LeFebvre on February 16, 2010
Did you know, by default, your new WordPress installation is not visible to the search engines? Yep it’s true!
Until you check the box under > settings > privacy, changing it from:
“I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”
to
“I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers”,
all of your blog pages, posts and links are nofollowed.
Which means Google and most of the other search engines will never find them.

I have a blog on wordpress named after me, its been a month and when i do a search for my name in Google, my blog still doesn’t feature in the top 10 results.(my privacy settings were changed from the first day itself).
However, another blog on blogger showed up on the very first day in the Google search results even though its not even remotely similar to my name.
Maybe i just doing something wrong here.

Hi Iris,
It is tough to say without know more about your particular situation. Do you have any links pointed to your blog?
best,
Iris
ahhh .. no I haven’t worked on that as yet. I usually get traffic by posting links to my twitter or facebook account. Guess i need to work on back links.
