Here’s another sneaky dofollow backlink you can get from the very authoritative domain Archive.org, also known as the Way Back Machine.
Any website that has an archive page on Archive.org will already have a dofollow link pointing back to their website, however most site archives don’t appear to be crawlable from anywhere else on archive.org, so you have to point an external link from somewhere else to your website’s profile page if you want Google to find it. That’s exactly what I did and it worked!
If you can make it out in the screen shot above, you will see that Google last cached the SEOrankings.com archive page on July 1, 2010 as well as the dofollow link which I’ve circled in red.
Most new websites and also some that have been around awhile don’t have any pages cached yet. However they may eventually when the archive servers catch up with processing all of the worlds domains. However, even a websites without an archive history will still render a static page if you replace my domain with your own.
There are several URL variation that will render same profile page, but it appears Google prefers to index the one in bold below over some of the other variations also shown here:
There are other variations as well, but it’s the one that works that’s most important so there is no need to show them all too you.
I honestly have no idea if this link counts towards improving your overall backlink score, because last time I checked it DOES NOT show up as a backlink in Google Webmaster Tools, nor does it show as a back link in Yahoo! Site Explorer. However, considering the page is cached by Google, I find that in itself is pretty interesting.
