Craigslist Posting Servers are Busy Again

CraigslistThe Craigslist Posting servers are currently busy. Please try again in 20 minutes. This is the message I have received every time I’ve posted my ads to Craigslist.org over the last several weeks.

I wonder if the constant slowdowns are going to cause Craigslist to change the way they offer their services and perhaps even start charging for more of them. While I know Craig Newmark has declined buyouts or charging for most ad posting services in the past, perhaps they wont technically be able to support it for much longer.

I’m definitely getting frustrated with continuous outages and have considered not posting there anymore. When I have to try over and over again to post one ad, it can takes up a lot of my time.

I think change is imminent and here are a couple of ways I see Craigslist changing their services in the future:

-Charging to post classified ads(even a minuscule amount can make a huge difference)
-Charging to post in more categories
-Delay between posts per account or IP address.
-Paid advertising throughout Craisglist and alongside free ad pages

Let’ be clear, I don’t hope they make these changes; I like my free services. I’m just saying they’re going to need to do something soon. Even if they beef up their servers, that’s going to cost money and that money is going to have to come from somewhere.

If you’re also having trouble posting to Craigslist at times, you can see if there are any outages by checking their system status.

Craigslist System Status

I’m not complaining. The folks over at Craigslist have been offering us a great free service for some time now, and I’m appreciative of that. I’m just wondering how much longer they can technically sustain offering such a great service this way.

If it keeps up I bet more people are going to start using Backpage.com for their free classifieds.

God I hate that w craigs, and I pist at like 2 and 3 am the servers are NOT busy. I think it is just a way to slow down spammers or something.

Yeah, I think that could be the case too. Seems to be happening at all hours of the day.

Seems to be happening more and more often lately. I also like to use Backpage.com because it is more beneficial than Craigslist in regards to SEO.

It’s very frustrating, and this hopefully is a way to slow down spammers. Every time it happens I wait few minutes and it’s good to go again; However I don’t think others are that patient, and this will drive people away from Craigslist. Craigslist can keep growing, and I strongly urge them to switch to a different tactic if they need to stop spammers.

I agree. I think this is not affecting typical users, just the folks that post a lot of ads. In my opinion, it is a tactic and actually an untruthful statement, “servers currently busy…”.

Hi there, I just wanted to come on here and say i think i found a solution. i was having the same problem this morning and for the past couple months here in eugene oregon. well…. I figured if it was linked to a ip address thing than i would find a program that changes and hides your ip address. download the freeware PROXYWAY. I just got it and all my postings aren’t getting hung up now. i repost some stuff in my garage and so forth every 4-5 days or so and have like 60 postings. anyway. hope this helps. hit me up at my e-mail if this helped you. i would like to know. thanks! michael dizzlemr @ yahoo.com

GRR!!! All day I’ve been trying to post one thing. I rarely post on CL… and I don’t understand. My sister (who was posting today also) said she never had any problems… WTF?!?

I regularly get about a 30 second to one minute delay between post. However, some times I don’t get any.

Yep, it’s been doing the same to me. I tried to post last night, and the server was busy; then I tried to post this morning and the server was busy. I am starting to question the reliability of craigslist.

This is ridiculous. Wait 20 minutes? For what, just to receive the same message again? I believe Craig is focusing on the wrong things along as the wrong direction with this site IMO. Oh well.

I usually only have to wait a minute or two. So you can disregard the whole 20 minute BS they give ya.

Even so, I agree; it’s still an annoyance.

I am really tired of the message “Craigslist Posting Servers are Busy”. I have been unable to post for more than a week now. What’s the deal? I just want to list my vehicle for sale by owner. I WILL NEVER use Craigslist again for anything!!!

I get this when trying to post just 1 listing. craigslist is really becoming less and less useful.

I’ve found backpage.com and the Dragon Exchange (www.TheDragonExchange.com) much easier to use and more useful friendly, and with far more features, and not all of the hassle.

Sorry, craig, but it seems like you’ve been overcome with your own success.

I get this message EVERY TIME I try to make my first post. I have not posted anything there for almost a year and I came back trying to sell a computer and that kept happening to me for weeks. It finally worked a few days ago. I don’t want to complain since it’s free, but I don’t want to spend 20 minutes to wait to be able to post again, because if I have to go somewhere for a hours and come back, try again, it’ll give me the same message.

Mind I also say that my password keeps being wrong on the website. They give you an option to change it temporarily, and then in your craigslist account settings, they let you change your password permanently. I have done this almost 5 times and it still always tells me I put in the wrong password, even though it was approved of the permanent change. I Emailed craigslist about this and they have yet to reply for as long as I haven’t been able to post there.
